Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has admitted he could leave amid links to the Liverpool job as Jurgen Klopp prepares to depart.
With Klopp set to depart Liverpool at the tip of the season after nine years, Amorim has been earmarked as one in all the favourites to take over.
The Portuguese coach has garnered loads of appreciation for his work within the Primeira Liga with Sporting and a number of other clubs are involved in his services including Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
And the 39-year-old has thrown fresh doubt on whether he’ll stick with Sporting.
After being asked if he would remain with the Lisbon club next season, Amorim replied: “No, I can not guarantee it.
“Sporting is coping with the long run and I cannot determine because I gave my word.
“I can not return within the sense that, if we do not win titles, I’ll leave Sporting.
“This was very clear from the start. It was a bet that I assumed was essential to convey to my players, so now we have to win.
“First, we are going to win the titles after which we are going to determine things, that is just not a priority.
“The longer term has been planned for a very long time, and we, as a structure, are outlining all of the situations, all the things we would like, for next season.
“That is the principal reason why I can not guarantee that I’ll stay, I crossed paths with the players and as a pacesetter I can not lose my word, regardless of how much it costs me, possibly now we have to win titles, we’re on the best track and it is important to win this game.”
Sporting are currently at the highest of the league in Portugal but are in a good battle with Benfica, while Porto are lagging behind.
They lead their city rivals by one point while Sporting are seen because the third-biggest club within the country behind Benfica and Porto.
Winning the title would see him win the Primeira Liga for a second time and solidify him as a hero within the club’s folklore, resulting in a large interest in him from a few of Europe’s biggest teams.
Liverpool have moved away from Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as a possible successor to Klopp this summer.
It comes after Reds legend Xabi Alonso underlined his intention to stick with Bayer Leverkusen while Amorim has admitted the recent speculation has ‘upset’ him.
