Coming off an upturn in 2023 business, ecommerce technology company BigCommerce is eyeing more growth in B2B and B2C ecommerce markets worldwide.

To administer its development plans, which include AI-powered product recommendations on its ecommerce platform, BigCommerce announced today the appointment as company president former Accenture managing director Travis Hess, who led the consulting firm’s direct-to-consumer commerce practice.
Hess follows Steven Chung, who left BigCommerce in February to grow to be president of Starburst, an information lake company involved in supporting artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics for businesses and government agencies.
As president, Hess will “lead BigCommerce’s global strategic and operational expansion with full responsibility for operations that market, sell and repair the corporate’s ecommerce platform, skilled services and agency partner relationships,” BigCommerce said in an announcement.
BigCommerce CEO Brent Bellm said Hess brings “ecommerce experience across the whole ecosystem” and has “deep knowledge of each [ecommerce] platform’s capabilities and vulnerabilities.”
Hess has greater than 15 years of senior management experience across several digital agencies and consultancies, based on BigCommerce and Hess’s LinkedIn profile. At Accenture, he managed the firm’s global partnership with ecommerce technology platform Shopify.
Prior to Accenture, Hess was an executive vp of The Stable, an omnichannel commerce agency Accenture acquired in August 2022. He had also served because the chief industrial officer after which CEO of BVA, a direct-to-consumer and Shopify agency that The Stable acquired in 2021.
Earlier, Hess held several senior management positions at firms including LiveArea, a worldwide commerce agency now a part of Dentsu/Merkle, and at PFSweb Inc., Loop Commerce and Amplifi Commerce.
“Having spent nearly twenty years within the enterprise ecommerce ecosystem, I’ve long admired BigCommerce’s open platform and product strategy,” Hess said in today’s announcement. “I’m genuinely thrilled to contribute to our differentiation, capture market share and establish ourselves because the frontrunner within the upcoming era of enterprise ecommerce.”
Thom Armstrong, senior vp, enterprise sales, BigCommerce
BigCommerce also said today it named digital commerce technology veteran Thom Armstrong as vp of Americas enterprise sales. Armstrong joins BigCommerce from digital merchandising technology firm Stylistics, where he was senior vp of sales and go-to-market.
Before Stylistics, Armstrong served in sales and GTM roles at ecommerce technology providers Fast, Amplience, Salesforce and Demandware. (Demandware is now a part of the Salesforce Commerce Cloud.)
BigCommerce, which reported an 11% year-over-year revenue increase to $309.4 million last yr, will release its first-quarter 2024 financial results on May 9.
