Randy Couture warns Jake Paul is ‘in trouble’ ahead of big fight
Former UFC heavyweight and light-weight heavyweight world champion, Randy Couture, admitted that the fight between Paul and Tyson is a sign of the recent state of boxing.
“This is a sign of what’s been occurring in boxing for just a little while now, these trillers and crossover matches. Jake and Logan (Paul) have instigated a bunch of these things and I don’t think Mike likes all of it that much for pure boxing.” Couture told MiddleEasy.
‘The Natural’ stated that he thinks Jake Paul may very well be ‘in trouble’, highlighting Mike Tyson’s recent training videos as the explanation why he thinks the previous heavyweight king will pull off the upset.
“Have a look at the training footage, that pop, and explosive speed and power are still there. He’s still got it in my view and that bodes well for going out and this probably ending in inside the first or second round.” Couture predicted.
The 60-year-old former UFC champion went on to confess that he believes the one way Jake Paul could win the fight, is that if it’s fixed. Fans have previously claimed that fights against Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren were ‘fixed’, but there, in fact, was no evidence to back up farfetched claims.
“I like that Jake has backed (up previous talk), I feel he’s in trouble with this one unless the fix is in, which I don’t even wish to say that because I don’t think Mike would do this. I see Mike going on the market and tearing him up in probably under two rounds.”
Randy Couture thanks Jake Paul for speaking out on UFC fighter pay
Couture, who now works more closely with the PFL, also thanked ‘The Problem Child’ for shining a lightweight on the issue of fighter pay within the UFC.
Paul has historically feuded with UFC CEO, Dana White, regarding the topic of fighter pay, with the vast majority of his previous opponents being former UFC fighters who’re chasing an enormous payday.
“I commend Jake for continuing to poke Dana White and the powers that be about fighter pay and all the opposite things that need to vary in our sport. All those guys who made those crossover matches from MMA made extra money in those single boxing matches than they ever made in MMA.
“That’s a problem, and because of Jake Paul for pointing that out, because we’ve actually been trying for years to spotlight that, and Jake has the platform to make use of that megaphone to spread that word loud and clear.” Couture finished.
