On June twenty ninth, UFC lightweight Michael Chandler will finally reap the rewards of his patience, as he welcomes Conor McGregor back to the Octagon after a three-year hiatus.
Michael Chandler hasn’t fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier in November 2022, at UFC 281.
He has sat waiting patiently for Conor McGregor to finally be able to return to motion after the 2 coached against one another on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter last yr.
‘The Notorious’ then went off to star within the film Road House, which was released earlier this yr. Following the discharge of the film, it was finally announced at UFC 300 that the 2 would fight on June twenty ninth, at UFC 303.
Michael Chandler vows to retire Conor McGregor
After suffering what could’ve been a career-ending injury – an ankle break – in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier three years ago, it’s unclear how the Irishman will look coming into this big fight.
With Dana White announcing that the fight will happen at welterweight, McGregor will hold quite the dimensions advantage over ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler.
Despite that, Chandler admitted that he believes he has what it takes to ‘retire’ McGregor, and put a stop to what he says ‘may very well be the best comeback of all time’.
“You might have to purchase this PPV…” Chandler told fans in an interview with Recent York Post Sports. “because this may very well be the last time that you simply ever see Conor McGregor fight.
“I really consider that what I’m going to do to him on June twenty ninth goes to warrant and merit him never stepping back into the Octagon. With that being said, Conor might have the ability to drag off the best comeback in combat sports history.” Chandler added.
‘The Notorious’ has already scored a comeback win previously in his profession, when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in round one in all their 2020 fight, following a two-year hiatus after losing his grudge match against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Chandler argues that he’s the ‘most fun’ fighter to ever step into the Octagon
The 38-year-old went on to say that he’s arguably the ‘most fun’ fighter to ever step foot within the Octagon, due to ‘masterpiece’ he has painted over the past few years.
“There’s a likelihood that we see the best comeback in combat sports history. (I’m) arguably probably the most exciting guy to ever set foot within the UFC Octagon.
“What I actually have made in my masterpiece that I’ve been painting within the last couple of years with the UFC, it is 2 of probably the most explosive and exciting guys, two of probably the most intriguing guys, and possibly the best comeback in combat sports history, or Conor McGregor’s last fight in MMA.” Chandler claimed.
There may be a likelihood that the winner of this fight leapfrogs all other welterweight contenders, and earns themselves a 170lb title fight, due to sheer magnitude of the fight.
