Nick Diaz begged the UFC for a rematch with Georges St Pierre

As a way to truly create a brilliant fight, it’s of optimum importance to bring together two competitors with completely opposing personalities. And back in 2013, the UFC did just that.

In a single corner stood a champion, poster boy and PR dream, proving that mixed martial arts is about exertions, discipline and humility, and in the opposite stood an out-and-out gangster, who couldn’t have cared less about maintaining appearances in the general public eye.

Ultimately, Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz gelled to create something extraordinary, splitting fans down the center with their wildly different approaches to the sport.

While some adored the gentleman’s sportsmanship, others couldn’t get enough of the maverick’s wild antics.

The pair delivered an incredible event, generating over 1 million global PPV buys, and while the fight itself was relatively conclusive, with GSP claiming a call victory, the combat sports community definitely wouldn’t oppose the concept of the arch enemies going toe-to-toe over again, which is precisely what Diaz has just tried to tug off.

During Wednesday’s edition of the MMA Hour, Ariel Helwani confirmed that the Stockton brawler was ‘pushing’ for bouts with St Pierre in addition to an array of several high-profile names.

The esteemed journalist claimed that the returning contender called for a collision with Colby Covington at UFC 300 in April. He also requested match-ups with Michael Venom Page and Kevin Holland at UFC 303, headlined by Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler.

Nonetheless, together with his comeback now set for August 3 in Abu Dhabi, the fan favorite has an almighty task on his hands.

Nick Diaz set to face Vicente Luque at UFC Abu Dhabi

While the American’s road back to motion definitely hasn’t been easy, neither has his opponent’s.

In recent times, Vicente Luque has suffered harrowing health issues, with the Brazilian having to battle back from the brink after sustaining a brain bleed.

In a testament to his awe-inspiring powers of self-belief, the athlete has made a full recovery and committed the following chapter of his life to training for Diaz.

This contest serves as an incredible opportunity for 2 fan favorites to place all of it on the road to potentially secure a fairytale ending to their dazzling careers.

And if fans weren’t excited enough to see the show, with the explosive pair battling it out, there’s one other hero making his grand return on the cardboard.
