Throughout the promotion of the fight, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs was a step ahead of Adrien Broner with the trash talking, and on the night of June seventh Cobbs was also a step ahead within the ring as he defeated the previous four-division champion by means of unanimous decision.
The Don King promoted event took place on the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. It was Blair “The Flair’s night as he looked sharp and laser focused, while his opponent looked like a boxer who’s timing was off, and his conditioning wasn’t as much as par.
Within the opening round Cobbs used lateral movement and proceeded to alter levels along with his southpaw jab. On the 2:26 mark of the second round, Cobbs landed a straight left hand that sent Broner all the way down to the canvas. Broner got up, then he dropped his mouthpiece.
The referee picked up the mouthpiece and the bout continued. Cobbs pressed forward and landed a flurry of shots to the body and head of Broner. The previous four-division champion Adrien Broner responded by landing a right hand followed by an uppercut.
Adrien Broner was aggressively pressing forward within the third round, but he wasn’t letting his hands go. On the conclusion of the third, as Broner sat in his corner, his team urged him to throw more punches.
Blair Cobbs opened the fourth round by connecting with an enormous left hand shot. Cobbs stayed in range and consistently landed his jab and mixtures. Within the fifth round Cobbs continued to regulate the range and blend up his offensive attack.
For the following couple of rounds, Broner continued to press forward, but Cobbs still dictated the pace of the fight as he fought well off the back foot. Down the stretch, Broner was the sharper puncher, but Cobbs had the upper workrate.
In the ultimate minute of the tenth and final round, Adrien Broner landed an enormous right hand. Broner closed out the bout by connecting with a tough left hand shot on the sound of the bell. After ten rounds of boxing Blair “The Flair” Cobbs earned a unanimous decision victory by the scores of 97-91, 96-93, 96-93.
With the win, Blair Cobbs improves to (17-1-1, 10 KOs) while Adrien Broner falls to (35-5-1, 24 KOs).
Cobbs earned the victory, but his performance didn’t seem impressive enough to maneuver the needle with regard to his positioning inside the welterweight division.
As for Adrien “The Problem” Broner, he continues to have the issue of not letting his hands go. Broner is currently on the crossroads where he could fight again, or come to the conclusion that he’s on the decline and proceed to make the difficult decision to call it a profession.
