The developer behind the Alone within the Dark remake, Pieces Interactive, has been shut down by the Embracer Group. The news is confirmed on the corporate’s website, which has a 2007 to 2024 lifespan, together with a brief statement summarizing its services and accomplishments through the years. Those that follow the gaming industry know the Embracer Group name well, because it has also closed Free Radical Design, Onoma, and Volition Games.
After top-of-the-line years of video game releases in recent memory, the industry has really stumbled in 2024. There have been tens of 1000’s of layoffs and multiple studio closures, including Xbox shutting down 4 developers: Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios, Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse Studios.
Pieces Interactive released over ten titles on PC, Console and Mobile since 2007, each our own concepts resembling Puzzlegeddon, Fret Nice, Leviathan Warships, Robo Surf and Kill to Collect, in addition to work for hire titles resembling Magicka 2 and a number of other DLCs for Magicka. Our client list includes Paradox Interactive, Koei Tecmo, Arrowhead Game Studios, Koch Media and RaceRoom Entertainment.
In 2017, Pieces Interactive were acquired by Embracer Group after working with the expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Ragnarök and third expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Atlantis.
