MANILA, Philippines — Galeries Tower looks to proceed constructing its young lineup through the 2024 PVL Rookie Draft on July 8 because it targets a scorer for its third pick and in addition eyeing a setter and middle blocker within the succeeding rounds.
The Highrisers coaching staff, led by coach Lerma Giron and deputy Godfrey Okumu, were in full force on the ultimate day of the draft mix at GameVille Ball Park on Wednesday.
They have already got names on top of their minds but they didn’t reveal to guard their goal players.
“We could get one among those positions. The setter, outside spiker, even an opposite, or a middle blocker. These players really add value because they’re just coming into the PVL. They’re latest. The difference might be the one who settles first are the one who will add more value to their teams,” said Okumu, whose squad earned the third pick within the lottery.
“I feel there’s loads of talent. As I’ve said before I got here to the Philippines, there’s loads of talent in Philippine volleyball,” he added.

The Kenyan coach said their priority is an out of doors spiker, who generally is a game-changer for his or her team, which only had a complete of 4 wins prior to now two All-Filipino Conferences.
“In our team, we hope that the person we are going to get will are available in settled and get to know the team higher. That’s an important thing, constructing the team together. With the people who find themselves in and the people coming in,” Okumu said.
Okumu said that they can even bring a Brazilian outside spiker as an import but he didn’t disclose the name because the management will announce it in the approaching days.

“We’ve got a Brazilian girl, she’s coming in soon and we hope that she will fill the gap of one among the skin spiker positions. We cannot name it for now, we wanna make it official. Sometimes within the Philippines, we like fiesta. We wait for the best time like we’ve an enormous feast, we eat, after which we name names. I feel it’s cool,” he said.
With a likelihood to bolster their roster through the PVL draft, Okumu is optimistic concerning the Highrisers’ future in the professionals.
“Last season, after we began, we had latest players and we didn’t have time to coach along with the brand new players so by the team the league was coming to an end, that’s after we were kinda attending to know one another, and starting to work together. That’s why there’s a struggle at first and by the top it is powerful. That’s why we consider this time, we are going to start strong,” he said.
