The Paris 2024 Olympics technologies are, for probably the most part, centered around deeper artificial intelligence integration.

These advancements are set to enhance event management, show a commitment to environmental stewardship and supply an unparalleled experience for athletes and spectators.

“I believe we’re also looking forward to seeing how all of the commentators for NBC will find a way to leverage that Google AI to present you those fun farm facts,” said Bob Laliberte, principal analyst with theCUBE Research. “I’m looking forward to seeing … whether or not they take it that far and the way those commentators actually use the AI to deliver a differentiated experience.”

Laliberte spoke with Rob Strechay, principal analyst with theCUBE Research, during an AnalystANGLE segment on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They homed in on the important thing Paris 2024 Olympics technologies that may significantly impact the event’s success, especially around sustainability, connectivity and security.

Sustainability: Equinix technology warms Olympic pool with ‘liquid air’

Well before the Olympics, Equinix Inc. was harnessing the warmth from its data centers in modern ways to support sustainability initiatives, in accordance with Laliberte. The corporate brings these capabilities to the Paris 2024 Olympics technologies to make sure the Olympic pool stays warm for competing athletes.

“It’s [an] ingenious option to actually take into consideration how they’re going to utilize the surplus heat from a sustainability perspective,” Strechay commented. “You continue to need to dissipate the warmth for the info centers, and I believe Equinix is basically one in all the businesses that’s been on the forefront of sustainability from a knowledge center perspective for quite some time.”

Laliberte also mentioned other modern ways Equinix is using this technology. For instance, the corporate has built a greenhouse on the roof of its data center to supply fresh vegetables for people in need. This technology centers around the corporate’s ability to convert air to liquid and use exchangers to transfer heat more evenly, which Laliberte thinks could have ramifications for generative AI.

“Quite a lot of individuals are talking about liquid cooling playing a central role,” Laliberte stated. “Which may make it [an] much more efficient heat transfer. I have a look at this [technology], and it’s just an amazing example of how organizations can mix increased business with greater levels of sustainability and provides back to the communities by which they’re serving. So, an amazing opportunity there.”

It takes a village: AI and 5G technologies mix to power robust connectivity

Orange SA will play a distinguished role throughout the event, starting with the opening ceremonies, in accordance with Laliberte. The corporate plans to implement a non-public 5G connection from Cisco Systems Inc. to connect with all devices so that they can stream live from the athletes’ perspectives.

“To me, that is where an actual coming-out party may very well be for personal 5G,” Strechay said. “All of the several venues they’re going to need to find a way to cover — not only moving boats — which I believe is a really unique application for it.”

Intel Corp. may even make a big contribution to the Paris 2024 Olympics technologies. Though graphics processing units have been taking center stage, some things still must run on central processing units and other forms of accelerators, Strechay noted.

“You’re using plenty of CPUs that may actually do this form of gen AI workloads and inference once things are trained out at the sting,” he said. “I believe that’s with these AI assistants and things that will probably be deployed around here, because I do know they’ve some big plans around virtual reality.”

Paris 2024 Olympics technologies: Broad AI integration safeguards the games with intelligent surveillance

Security is a top priority for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with advanced integrated AI technologies being deployed to make sure the security of athletes and spectators. Privacy laws prohibit facial recognition technology, but surveillance cameras will incorporate AI technologies, in accordance with Laliberte. Orange SA, in cooperation with a bunch of partners the corporate has put together, can have a big role in driving this effort.

“The great thing is that they know where individuals are imagined to be,” Strechay added. “They’ll train the models on that, they usually have been over the course of getting things stood up. You don’t need to do facial recognition to truly understand a foul actor.”

From a networking perspective, these sophisticated surveillance processes would require robust backend processes to make sure their success, in accordance with Laliberte. How will all of it play out?

“Hopefully, it doesn’t need to be used for anything nefarious,” Laliberte said. “It’s just so simple as helping people get to the stadium and the venues more efficiently and having the ability to ensure the perfect possible experience while they’re there.”
