AnEsonGib publicizes intention to compete in ‘Medieval MMA’
Having spent the last 12 months out of motion following the capitulation of Kingpyn Boxing’s High Stakes tournament, AnEsonGib’s next move has intrigued fans. He has at all times resisted the approaches of Misfits Boxing, and is unlikely to sign with them for a next fight.
As an alternative, he claimed today that he was planning on making the unprecedented move into what he calls ‘the world’s most dangerous sport’. In a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, the YouTuber confirmed his next move within the combat world, much to the confusion of fans.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to compete in essentially the most dangerous sport that the planet has to supply; Medieval MMA,” he said, before showing a montage of clips from earlier events. “Dangerous? Dangerous indeed.
“But it should fill me with great honor to compete within the oldest type of combat; sword and shield. So that is my official message to the armored MMA community; Big Gibber is coming for you!”
What’s Medieval MMA?
The concept of ‘Medieval MMA’ began as a gimmick during Russian MMA shows under the M-1 banner. Between legitimate fights on the promotion, which is the country’s biggest, they might slip in MMA bouts where the competitors would wear full armor, complete with a sword and a shield.
Starting in 2015, the game has grown a small cult following in Europe, with around 50 fighters now known to compete. There are other promotions who now placed on bouts, including some with a couple of man within the cage at any time.
Initially often known as ‘knight fights’, in a 2015 interview with MMAFighting M-1 boss Vadim Finkelchtein said detailed the ruleset. “I feel it is analogous to MMA,” he said. “The principles are similar: you’ll be able to punch, strike and wrestle.
“The fighters have swords and shields, wear special clothing, and all that appears really impressive and exciting.”
