Science fiction and socially conservative Thailand are an unlikely mix which is explored in upcoming anthology series “Tomorrow and I,” that global streamer Netflix will release later in 2024.

Directed by Paween Purijitpanya, the four-part show reimagines on a regular basis scenarios in intriguing ways. The 70-minute episodes cover: bringing family members back from the dead through use of cloning technology; intelligent sex robots; how artificial intelligence could move Buddhist teachings on from their fixed traditional position; and the way people might come to depend on ‘octopuses’ to get by in perpetually flooded cities.

The forged includes Pakorn Chatborrirak, Violette Wautier, Waruntorn Paonil, Treechada Hongsyok, Ray Macdonald, Timethai, Thongchai Thongkuntom, Aelm Thavornsiri, Pongsatorn Jongwilas, Chananticha Chaipa, and Wanichaya Pornpanarittichai.

Purijitpanya has previously written, directed or edited segments of 2007 film “Body,” 2008 film “4bia” and its 2009 follow-up “Phobia 2” in addition to the 2012 feel-good film “Seven Something,” the boundary-pushing 2021 title “Ghost Lab,” and an acclaimed episode of the “Liberation” episode of “Girl from Nowhere” Season 2.

The show was first announced earlier this 12 months when Netflix expanded its Southeast Asian production slate. Now the streamer is further teasing it as a part of its ‘Geek Week’ showcase and has now released a teaser trailer.

“This groundbreaking anthology series is the first sci-fi title from Netflix Thailand, where we proceed to push the boundaries of local storytelling,” the corporate said in an announcement.

Produced by Jungka Studio, “Tomorrow and I” is a component of an expanding slate of Thai content that Netflix is backing. It has also launched horror anthology series “Terror Tuesday: Extreme,” based on a preferred radio program; an exploration of religion and societal issues in “The Believers”; retro perceptions of sex and intimacy from the Nineteen Seventies in “Doctor Climax”; and “Master of the House,” an upscale revision of the ‘lakorn’ or Thai soap opera genre and the primary Thai title to achieve the highest spot of the streamer’s Global Top 10 TV (non-English) series rating.
