Hoda Kotb has often gushed about how her family members have defined her life — especially her daughters, Haley and Hope.
The Today anchor became a mother when she adopted her little ones in 2017 and 2019, respectively, together with her then-partner, Joel Schiffman. The previous couple got engaged after six years of dating in 2019 before calling it quits in 2022.
In terms of raising her kids, Hoda has often credited her mother, Sameha Kotb, for uplifting her approach to parenting. “She was an awesome mom. She was strict,” she told Today in 2016. “That was how we lived. You understood what no meant. There was no ‘But everyone else is doing it.’ She couldn’t have cared less what anyone else was doing.”
Following her split from Schiffman, Hoda discussed the teachings she was attempting to instill in Haley and Hope.
“I believe one thing I actually wanna work on with my girls, too, is them having their voice,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2022. “[Teaching them about] being brave enough to say what they need, what they need and never to feel greedy or an excessive amount of or too bossy. … I believe I need my girls to be more vocal and to say what they need and never to be afraid and never to try to evolve to be what other people want.”
