Stars React to Kris Kristofferson’s Death at Age 88

Celebrities are paying tribute to Kris Kristofferson after the country music star died on the age of 88.

News broke on Sunday, September 29, that Kristofferson died yesterday in his home. “We’re all so blessed for our time with him,” his family wrote in an announcement on Sunday. “Thanks for loving him all these a few years, and while you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.”

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Kyle Young also honored Kristofferson via social media on Sunday. “Kris Kristofferson believed creativity is God-given, and people who ignore such a present are doomed to unhappiness,” the statement read. “He preached that a lifetime of the mind gives voice to the soul, and his work gave voice not only to his soul but to ours. He leaves a convincing legacy.”

The country singer, who starred with Kristofferson within the 1999 film Outlaw Justice, shared two throwback photos of the pair via Instagram. “Sad to listen to of Kris Kristofferson’s passing. He was an inspiration to me and I used to be fortunate to get to know him on the set of “Outlaw Justice” that we filmed in Spain in 1998,” he captioned the post. “My heartfelt condolences exit to Kris’s wife, Lisa and all of his family, friends and fans.”

LeAnn Rimes

The singer and songwriter took to X to share a photograph of herself cuddling as much as Kristofferson. Rimes, 42, captioned the snap, “An epic human with the most important heart ♥️ you might be so, so missed. rest easy, my friend. #kriskristofferson.”

Reba McEntire

The country music star shared a sweet tribute to Kristofferson via X on Sunday. McEntire, 69, posted a photograph of the late singer performing along with her, captioning the touching memory, “What a gentleman, kind soul, and a lover of words. I’m so glad I got to fulfill him and be around him. One in every of my favorite people. Rest in peace, Kris.”

Josh Brolin

The Dune actor selected a few of Kristofferson’s poignant song lyrics to post via Instagram on Sunday. Brolin, 56, wrote, “Poet, lovely human being, road scholar redneck old schooler,” before sharing a portion of the late star’s 1971 track, “Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again).”

Brolin’s post read, “Comin’ close along with a feelin’ that I’ve never known before, in my time / She ain’t ashamed to be a girl, or afraid to be a friend / I don’t know the reply to the straightforward way she opened every door in my mind / But dreamin’ was as easy as believin’ it was never gonna end … Kris Kristofferson RIP to a different great.”

Dakota Fanning

Fanning, 30, posted an Instagram Story that reflected on the time she spent with Kristofferson on the 2005 film Dreamer. “This legend was so good to me once we worked together on Dreamer,” the Perfect Couple star wrote last Sunday night. “What an honor to have hung out in his presence.”

Barbra Streisand

The A Star is Born actress shared heartfelt words via Instagram on Sunday night, labeling Kristofferson “something special.” Streisand, 82, captioned a set of photos that paid tribute to her former costar, “The primary time I saw Kris acting at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he gave the look of the right selection for a script I used to be developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born. Within the movie, Kris and I sang the song I’d written for the film’s essential love theme, “Evergreen.”

The post continued, “For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to hitch me on-stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, “Lost Inside Of You.” He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the popularity and love he so well-merited.”

Streisand finished the post off with, “My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa who I do know supported him in every way possible.”

Dolly Parton

Parton, a long-time friend and collaborator of Kristofferson’s, posted a tribute to him via her Instagram Stories. “What a terrific loss What a terrific author What a terrific actor What a terrific friend,” she wrote against a black background. “I’ll all the time love you, Dolly.”

Wynonna Judd

Judd took to Instagram Stories to mourn the sad news, sharing a photograph of herself standing alongside Kristofferson. “One in every of my favorite people on the planet… RIP @kristofferson,” Judd captioned the snap.

Melissa Etheridge

Etheridge shared a sweet black-and-white picture of her posing with Kristofferson. “Loved this man, his talent, his mind and his beautiful heart,” she wrote via X on Sunday. “Journey well, my friend.”

Margo Price

The singer mourned Kristofferson within the comments section of his Instagram post. “Rest easy Kris,” she wrote on Sunday. “Thanks to your spirit, your songs, your spirit, your compassion and courage. You’re one in all the best songwriters of all time and singing with you at Newport was my favorite musical moment ever. Sending like to Lisa and the family. ❤️.”
