The prequel drama “NCIS: Origins” and the multi-cam comedy “Poppa’s House” have each received full season orders at CBS, Variety has learned. Each shows are produced by CBS Studios.
“’NCIS: Origins’ has added an excellent recent dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories and crime solving,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “‘Poppa’s House’ excels with the dynamic father/son chemistry between Damon and Damon Jr. and their family-inspired stories that bring this comedy to life. These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.”
Each shows will now air 18 episodes of their first season. That is the newest full season order CBS has given out this fall, with the “Young Sheldon” spinoff “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” picked up for a full season in October, while the Kathy Bates-led “Matlock” has already been renewed for Season 2.
“NCIS: Origins” debuted on Oct. 14. In accordance with VideoAmp and CBS streaming data, the series premiere has been seen by 9 million viewers after seven days of multiplatform viewing, while “Poppa’s House,” which launched on Oct. 21, has been seen by 6.41 million.
“NCIS: Origins” stars Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991. Per the official logline, “Gibbs starts his profession as a newly minted special agent on the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).”
Mark Harmon, who played Gibbs in the unique “NCIS,” serves because the series’ narrator and executive producer. The forged also includes Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote. Harmon and his son Sean executive produce together with David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal.
“Poppa’s House” stars Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. in addition to Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Within the series, Wayans stars as “legendary talk radio host and happily divorced ‘Poppa’ who has his standpoint challenged at work when a brand new female co-host (Atkins) is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), an excellent dreamer who’s attempting to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.” Dean Lorey and the Wayans executive produce.
