At The Game Awards 2024, Capcom announced that a sequel to Ōkami is in development and can see Hideki Kamiya returning to the franchise as Director. Kamiya directed the unique game and the sequel is being co-developed amongst multiple studios that include various staff members of the unique Ōkami. These include M-TWO Inc., Machine Head Works Inc., and CLOVERS Inc. For many who have never heard of Ōkami, it was originally released in 2006 and takes place in an exquisite Japanese-style world. In it, players are Amaterasu and embark on a journey to revive life to the land. The action-adventure game is thought for its heartwarming story and unique art style.
Hideki Kamiya’s return for the Ōkami sequel is the most important news we’ve heard since his departure from PlatinumGames last 12 months. He joined CLOVERS Inc. as studio head and chief game designer in October 2020, where he’ll also serve because the director for the Ōkami sequel. He had a brief message to share with all of the fans:
To all of you
“Until next time…”
How long has it been because the story was concluded with that? I didn’t think the day would really come, where I’d return to Ōkami and proceed the story with my very own hands. Even at this very moment, my body is crammed with each a cautious surprise that this just isn’t a dream, and a joy that can not be described in words.
Everyone who has worked so hard to make this project a reality, the chums who believed in me and gathered at CLOVERS Inc., and most significantly, the voices of so lots of you who’ve continued to support Ōkami even after such an extended time: all of this has come together to create this miracle, for which I’m deeply grateful.
Like a powerful rising sun, this project is finally in motion. However it’s still a small bud that’s blossoming. We’re able to fill this recent Ōkami with many colourful flowers, and to do our greatest to fulfil the promise of “next time” in one of the simplest ways.
Everyone please wait with anticipation.
