Ange Postecoglou has described a number of the headlines about his Tottenham team as ‘offensive’.
The Spurs boss has got his team playing a number of the most entertaining football within the Premier League, although pundits have loads of gripes with their all-action style.
Following Tottenham’s 4-3 win over Man United within the Carabao Cup quarter final – a clash where two costly errors almost saw Spurs throw away a 3-0 lead – Jamie Carragher suggested that their lack of ability to administer a game was ‘not right’.
Asked concerning the criticism of former players, Postecoglou laughed: “Jamie Carragher, mate. You’ll be able to name him. He’ll enjoy that.
“People tell me he likes me in order that’s a great thing. They are saying, ‘did you hear what he said? But he likes you as an individual’. So, that is essential to me.
“Look, it’s all valid, it’s all valid but I do not need validation from anybody to do what I do. Whether you agree with my approach or not, there’s validity in each and I haven’t got a difficulty with that.
“I really like the actual fact individuals are talking about our games and analysing our games. I feel that is very important as well for this football club and I’d fairly that than us be anonymous and nobody discuss us, or we’re just grinding out an existence.
“As I’ve at all times said, you’ve got to be prepared for scrutiny, you’ve got to be prepared for criticism and it’s the way you react to that that’s more essential.
“What I’m saying is I do not need validity and it won’t change what I imagine because what I imagine is borne from a lifetime of experiences and values that I won’t let anyone tamper with from the skin.
“Whether it’s Jamie or anyone else scrutinising or criticising our approach, that is healthy because to me the way you react to that’s far more essential than that itself because when you’re going to leap each time, it tells me you do not really have lots of belief on this constructing about what we’re doing if we’re at all times going to fret about what he’s saying, or we’d like someone to say a great thing, or someone already said a nasty thing.
“I feel it’s healthy if it’s coming from the proper kind of place. Someone like Jamie, he’s there to offer his opinion and is not going to stand there and say, ‘I’ve got nothing to say,’ he’ll give an opinion.
“A few of the other stuff I sort of don’t understand because I feel it’s nearly getting headlines but again when you react to that it sort of says more about yourself than anything.”
Postecoglou added: “There may be some stuff on the market and I find – and at the suitable time I’ll call it out – just offensive towards me.
“I just think you already know what, I do not know. I’m up here with a silly accent and perhaps I do not take things as seriously as people want me to and I’m fairly dismissive of them, but that is alright. I really like my life and I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.”
Next up for Tottenham is a house clash with Liverpool within the Premier League – a preview for his or her Carabao Cup semi-final which takes place over two legs early next yr.
If Spurs can overcome the Reds, they’ll compete in the ultimate within the hope of winning their first major trophy since 2008.
