Nina Dobrev is reflecting on the devastation attributable to the Los Angeles wildfires — and is encouraging her fans to do the identical.
“Hi everyone. It’s been such a tragic time in Los Angeles recently,” Dobrev, 36, said in a Sunday, January 19, Instagram post. “I even have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all of the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families. My heart is broken for all of the people affected by these wildfires.”
Dobrev explained that she was among the many tens of hundreds of people that evacuated their homes on account of the wildfires that began earlier this month. Dobrev left her home on January 9, which was her thirty sixth birthday.
“Definitely not how I planned on spending my birthday,” Dobrev said. “But I desired to make this video to thank everyone for his or her birthday wishes and to make a request. I don’t find out about you, but I even have been feeling survivor’s guilt.”
Dobrev noted that her home was “near one in every of the fires,” but ultimately “made it.” She added, “But so many others weren’t so lucky.”
Dobrev encouraged her followers to donate, linking a spreadsheet in her bio that highlights the GoFundMe links of “most of the families” who lost their homes.
“What people really want without delay is financial aid to assist them get back on their feet and begin rebuilding their lives and their homes,” she said. “The Pacific Palisades, the Altadena-Pasadena community, particularly, needs it probably the most.”
For her birthday, Dobrev donated to the GoFundMe pages and said she “would find it irresistible” if her followers could do the identical gesture — small or big donations.
“I put myself within the shoes of all these people whose homes have burned all the way down to the bottom with their belongings, their memories, their all the things that made them feel secure on the earth now gone, and their insurance dropped them,” Dobrev said. “For a few of them, the extent of tragedy is immeasurable and it’s really hard to grasp. They’ve lost all the things.”
Dobrev said her heart has broken into “one million pieces” for the families impacted by the fires. Dobrev concluded her video by sharing that she was pondering of those affected, saying, “My thoughts and prayers exit to you all.”

For my birthday, my only wish this 12 months is that you just help a family in need,” Dobrev captioned her post. “I’ve donated to the families on the Google doc that’s linked in my bio. If you have got been seeing all of the photographs and videos online and if you must help too, please consider donating as well. There’s a dedicated section for the black families & other historically marginalized groups within the Altadena community who’ve been hit especially hard.”
