Samson Viswanath, father of Sanju Samson, said the Indian star batter-wicketkeeper is ‘not protected’ being with the Kerala Cricket Association.

In an interaction with Sports Tak, Samson’s father broke down in tears when speaking about KCA ties with the Indiana cricketer.

Sanju Samson is an element of the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against England and hence will miss Kerala’s sixth-round Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh.

India will face England from January 22 at Kolkata and the rubber will culminate on February 2 at Mumbai. Unless Samson is released from the India squad, the wicketkeeper batter will even miss the ultimate Group C match against Bihar, which can start on January 30.

Nevertheless, the 30-year-old has a likelihood to play for Kerala within the knockout phase because the state team is currently placed second within the group with 18 points behind leaders Haryana (20 points).

Samson was also not chosen to play for Kerala within the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy after he skipped a three-day camp preceding the tournament.

It also played a component in Samson not getting considered for India’s ODI squad against England and for the Champions Trophy, despite making 100 against South Africa at Paarl late last yr.

“My kids aren’t protected here. These people in Kerala Cricket Association will break my son I would like to take him out from the cricket board” Sanju Samson’s father was quoted as saying by Sports Tak.

Viswanath was filled with praise for India head coach Gautam Gambhir and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for including Sanju within the team.

“Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir gave a likelihood to my son and I’m very grateful to them. They gave a likelihood to my son by witnessing his potential” Viswanath said.

When asked about Sanju Samson’s name missing from Team India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Viswanath said: “There isn’t a must be upset. I’m telling you straight away, the team that has been chosen within the Champions Trophy isn’t any less.”

KCA president Jayesh George had earlier explained the rationale why Samson was not picked for Kerala.

“I’m undecided if Samson missing the tournament was the rationale he was excluded. The rationale he was not added to the Vijay Hazare squad was because he sent a one-line text saying he wouldn’t be available for the 30-member preparatory camp. We were all the impression that he could be leading the team since he’s our white-ball captain and had led within the SMAT season as well,” George was quoted as saying by MediaOne.
