‘Deep sadness and shock’: Canadian child dies at resort in Jamaica

A Canadian child has died at a resort in Jamaica, officials have confirmed.

Global Affairs Canada says it’s aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in Jamaica, and is providing consular assistance to the family.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the individuals’ family members,” the agency said in an announcement.

The investigation into what exactly happened remains to be ongoing.

“Because of privacy considerations no further information could be disclosed,” Global affairs added.

In accordance with a resort spokesperson, the incident occurred on Feb. 3 on the RIU Palace Aquarelle in Trelawny, Jamaica involving a toddler.

The resort expressed their condolences and said they’re cooperating with authorities.

“With deep sadness and shock, we would really like to precise our most sincere condolences to the family and family members of the deceased child,” said the resort’s spokesperson.

“We’re working closely with the authorities, providing all of the required information, and proceed to supply all possible support to the family during these painful moments.”

Further details in regards to the circumstances of the kid’s death haven’t yet been released.
