Ashanti Pays Tribute To Irv Gotti With Heartfelt Message
Late on Friday, Feb. 7, Ashanti reacted to the heartbreaking news on Instagram, paying tribute to the Murder Inc. co-founder. She posted a series of throwback photos from the Murder Inc. days, including a pic of her 2002 self-entitled debut album featuring hits like ‘Silly’ and ‘Baby.’
The R&B star poured her heart out in a lengthy caption, saying she felt crushed about how things ended. She admitted their relationship wasn’t in one of the best place but expressed deep gratitude for every little thing he did to support her profession.
“I can’t imagine things ended like this….and it makes me so sad…We weren’t on one of the best terms the past few years but as I’ve all the time said, through our ups and downs I’ll without end be thankful for every little thing that you simply’ve done for me. We made history and that can remain infinite..” Ashanti wrote.
She also gave him props for all the time pushing her and shared that, despite their ups and downs, she’s all the time kept him in her prayers.
“I’ve all the time respected your musical genius and skill to push me to be my best.. All of the greatness and positive things that got here, far outweigh the dark and negative times. I actually have all the time prayed for you to seek out peace. Sending love and prayers to your entire family. Rest well. Rest in Peace Irv 🙏🏽🕊️”

Irv built his legacy at Murder Inc., collaborating with Ashanti, Ja Rule, and DMX. He kicked off his profession at Def Jam and later created Murder Inc. under its umbrella, starting with Ja Rule’s debut album, ‘Venni Vetti Vecci.’
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news of Irv Gotti’s tragic death, with TMZ following up by confirming the story through his family. Back in August 2024, TSR revealed that Irv suffered a stroke, in keeping with his representative on the time. Irv often spoke about his battle with diabetes, admitting he continuously skipped his insulin doses. TMZ also reported that doctors encouraged him to regulate his eating regimen, but he admitted to struggling to follow the changes.
Irv’s Kids Speak Out In Joint Statement
The day after Irv passed, his kids, Angie, Sonny, and JJ, shared a joint statement on his Instagram. They posted a single photo of him as a baby twiddling with a DJ board and reflected on his legacy.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father,Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo, on February 5, 2025. Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, abandoning a legacy that can without end resonate within the hearts of those that knew him and the countless lives he touched. Our dad was an incredible man, a real visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and adjusted the sport for artists and fans alike. His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will proceed to influence future generations.”
Additionally they revealed that he spent his final moments surrounded by love and asked for privacy while they mourned their father’s death.
“As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we grieve the lack of our dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live to tell the tale through his music and the love he shared with all of us. Thanks to your understanding and support during this difficult time.”
