Host: “And CJ, this recent trade bait board looks loads different than the last edition a pair weeks ago. With a month still to go until the deadline. How rather more change is ahead in the approaching weeks?

Johnston: “Well, I believe there’s loads still to come back. And yes, trade bait has been left in shambles due to all of the motion in late January and early February. Here sort of a weird season, obviously, with the 4 Nations Face-off break coming up. That’s a time frame where a number of GMs don’t expect there to be much trade motion.

So we’ve type of had, I believe, an initial sort of unofficial deadline, whatever you need to call it, that’s prompted a few of the motion we’ve had thus far. And it’s only going to be two weeks after that 4 Nations break before the deadline.

And I believe that’s when a few of the teams, especially Eastern Conference, are going to should declare themselves as either sellers or not. There’s still a number of teams in that sort of, are they or aren’t they type of situation, and I believe that that’s kept the trade market from fully taking shape just yet.

So we’ve already had a busy run here, and I believe the 2 weeks right before the March 7 deadline are going to be something else.
