Twelve people have been injured and a number of other are in critical condition after a gunman tossed a grenade right into a bar in Grenoble, France.

The incident occurred at a working-class bar shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, local authorities report.

‘An individual got here in, threw a grenade, didn’t say a word, it seems, after which fled,’ said prosecutor François Touret de Coucy.

The assailant was also reported to be carrying a Kalashnikov rifle, although they didn’t use it in the course of the attack.

The entire victims were transported to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital where they’re currently receiving treatment, BFMTV reports.

Grenoble mayor Eric Piolle condemned the attack within the ‘strongest terms’ and thanked the emergency services for his or her ‘rapid intervention’.

Mayor Piolle said the prefecture prolonged its ‘full support to the victims and their family members’ and condemned what it called ‘this cowardly and criminal act or unprecedented violence’.
