** NHLRumors.com transcription
Bukauskas: “All right, John Gibson in Anaheim, who, I mean, it’s been years where he’s been out and in of the rumor mill, as regards to trades. Some news about him.
Friedman: “Yeah, so I’ve been type of looking into Gibson just a little bit on and off. We’ve talked about him on the podcast. And in addition, you are trying to have an idea of what you realize a few of the Canadian teams are taking a look at.
Since we’re at Hockey night in Canada, we talked about Ryan Donato on Saturday night. I believe the Oilers have been certainly one of the teams taking a look at Donato, who’s a really manageable salary this yr, $2 million AAV. Up at the top of the season. Scored his nineteenth goal the opposite night. I believe there’s going to be loads of interest in Donato. And, you realize, the Blackhawks will just must work out what they need to do here.
NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens – Jake Evans, and Joel Armia
But you realize, when I discussed Edmonton and Donato on Saturday night, you realize, someone said to me, you realize, have you ever done any research on Gibson and Edmonton? And, you realize, certainly one of the things I’d heard throughout the season was that Gibson’s preferences were Edmonton and Carolina. I mean, Carolina has, as we’ve talked about, that dance with Gibson has been on and off. They’re like two kids on the prom eyeing one another from the alternative side of the room, and so they don’t ever get together to bounce thrice in a row. They simply haven’t been capable of make the deal.
You recognize, the Edmonton thing is, is basically interesting, because I don’t know where it got here from last week, I didn’t see it, but someone told me there was some talk concerning the Oilers and and Gibson. And the one thing I type of heard is that, you realize, Gibson wants a situation where he’s going to be just like the the primary, and it’s, it’s type of going to be his job. He desires to be the guy. And, you realize, so I don’t know if a Gibson-Skinner duo goes to work for him.
And in order that’s certainly one of the things that because right away, it’s type of Gibson-Dostal and so they’re a combo. And that Dostal kid, I mean he’s a hell of a goalie. He, that child goes to be a stud, and Anaheim’s got an incredible one there.
I believe Gibson wants the possibility to go on a run and prove he may be the guy on a top team. So if it’s the Gibson Skinner combo, I’m undecided that that’s going to appeal to him.
Bukauskas: “But I suppose the tricky part is Elliotte like, when you’re going if you wish to go to a team that has a likelihood to win now, well, normally teams which have a likelihood to win now are because in some shape or form, they’ve got good goaltending. So and totally not taking anything away from John’s resume, because, I mean, he’s proven he generally is a superb goaltender too. But, I mean, I don’t know if, as I get to the purpose where he says, All right, I’ll roll the dice and bank …
NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, and the Florida Panthers
Friedman: “That’s what I might do.”
Bukauskas: “… a likelihood to get a chance and never give the ball back once I do.”
Friedman: “That, that’s what I might do. I prefer to bet on myself. Doesn’t all the time work I might say Kyle, but I do prefer to bet on myself.”
Bukauskas: “It did on Sunday.”
Friedman: “Yes, yes, it did.
But you realize, it’s my job, what I attempt to do on the pod here will not be only give my very own opinion but try to elucidate what I believe is going on or what persons are considering. And you realize, I’ll just say that certainly one of the things I heard was that, you realize, Gibson, Edmonton, I don’t know if it remains to be as likely as I believed it may need been early within the season for that reason. We’ll see the way it all goes. But I heard that would potentially be an element like this.
I all the time warn people, and it’s really true. Simply because something is true today, especially within the trade market, doesn’t mean it’s going to be true tomorrow.
You recognize, I all the time remember two years ago, Tyler Bertuzzi was not available, after which he was because Detroit fell out of the playoff race with those two losses to Ottawa, and he ended up in Boston.
So, you realize, that’s, that’s type of the best way it goes. And you usually must be on top of the wave, and the wave ebbs and it flows. And the ebb I had heard was early within the season, I had heard that, that Gibson was a possibility for Edmonton. You recognize, then I heard perhaps less so if it wasn’t because the clear-cut primary.
NHL Rumors: John Gibson Will Let Agent Handle Trade Talks
Bukauskas: “It could be a complete game-changer, if any, any contender made the deal for him between now and the, the deadline. It could really be something. I believe there’s, there’s loads of motivation there. If he gets his fresh start here, someday.”
Friedman: “I might just make the leap. If I used to be him, I might make the leap. Just go there and just go there and win the job. That’s what I might do.
