Innagural Women’s Premier League (WPL) winners Mumbai Indians shared some fascinating footage of their nets session ahead of their key clash against Gujarat Giants on Tuesday (February 18) in Vadodara.

In a video post on Instagram, which was cheekily captioned, ‘#GGvMI ki सरस taiyaari chal rahi hai 😎’ (The preparations for #GGvMI are going thoroughly), the franchise showed a montage of most of their players practicing big shots, spot bowling and other drills within the nets. Coke Studio’s Gujarati song ‘Khalasi’ by Aditya Gadhvi and Achint Thakkar played within the background, with the clips matching the beats.

Mumbai Indians will likely be aiming to bounce back after suffering a narrow, heart-breaking defeat to Delhi Capitals within the second match of the tournament on Saturday. Despite skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 42 (22) and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 80 (59), the team got bowled out for 164 in 19.1 overs.

Delhi Capitals got off to an ideal start via Shafali Verma’s 43 (18) and kept going despite losing regular wickets in the center overs. With 10 needed off the last over, the Capitals crawled over the finish line on the last ball.

“Although we weren’t capable of set an honest total, I believed we might cross 200 when Nat and I were batting. Those five balls we didn’t bat cost us. Ismail is someone who’s an ideal bowler. She gives us the privilege of getting breakthroughs. Sajana did well for us in practice games. Unfortunately, we misfielded off her bowling and that cost her,” skipper Kaur said after the match.

“Very first thing is we would like to play 20 overs. We’ve to bat the complete 20 overs. And the set batter should bat 20 overs. Once I was in, I must have continued longer. Any such collapse happens but our batters have to take more responsibility in the following game,” she added.

The Giants, meanwhile, are coming off having lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in the primary match of the season and winning against the UP Warriorz by the identical margin. They’ll aim to win their last home match of the season.
