Harry Kane revealed he could be undergoing a scan on a possible injury after being subbed off during Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory over Celtic.

The Champions League play-off game looked set for extra-time and possibly penalties when Celtic levelled the tie at 2-2 through Nicolas Kuhn.

There have been fears Celtic could be overpowered by German giants Bayern on the Allianz Arena but when anything it was the Scots who created one of the best possibilities.

Extra-time was beckoning when Kuhn gave Celtic a deserved lead on the hour mark but Alphonso Davies bundled home a 94th-minute equaliser to interrupt the visitors’ resistance and send Bayern through courtesy of a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Bayern look set to win the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany – moving eight points clear at the highest of the table – but looked bereft of ideas against a formidable and resolute Celtic, with Kane taken off at half-time.

Kane had been an injury doubt for the sport and each the England captain and Kompany confirmed his removal was on account of fitness concerns.

The 31-year-old former Tottenham striker, who left the stadium with a noticeable limp, said: ‘We’ll have a scan tonight after which we’ll see. I’m undecided if I can play against Frankfurt on Sunday.’

Kompany, meanwhile, said: ‘It was a fast turnaround for Harry. We were in Glasgow on Wednesday, you go again on the weekend after which had the sport tonight.

‘He gave us the thumbs-up this morning, he’s an experienced player and it’s a crucial game so we obviously fully trust his judgement.

‘But in the sport he felt he wasn’t in a position to fully help the team anymore and naturally in that moment we didn’t need to take the additional risk.

‘How long it’s going to be, if he’s injured or not, I don’t have any information right away apart from he couldn’t proceed within the second half.

‘He had a sensation, there wasn’t a moment in the sport. The assessment tomorrow will give us more information.’

Kompany was relieved to progress within the Champions League and believes Bayern’s sluggish performance was a results of fixture congestion.

‘It was a hard-fought draw, I believed we had many possibilities within the second half to attain two to 3 goals,’ he said.

‘The context is significant, we spent a whole lot of energy previously six days. Ultimately, we’re eight points ahead within the league and we’ve advanced to the following round within the Champions League. We now have a while to recuperate.

‘In fact, we at all times need to dominate and be significantly better than the opponent, especially here. However the result’s at all times a very powerful thing.

‘We’ll learn from this game. As I said, we’ve to have a look at the context, we played too many games. We fought hard  three days ago in Leverkusen, and 6 days ago at Celtic Park to get the result that helped us today.’

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers insisted he was ‘very proud’ of his team’s performance out in Germany and described Bayern Munich’s late goal as ‘cruel’.

‘I’m very happy with the performance. It what we at all times search for,’ he said. ‘To come back to this arena and play with that confidence, with none fear, makes me very, very proud.

‘The cruel blow at the top makes it feel like a loss, but we’ve come here, drawn with Bayern and sadly it just wasn’t enough to get through within the tie.

‘We’ve come up against one among the favourites and we’ve ran them very, very close. Especially in their very own back yard, there’s not many teams who come here and create those opportunities and play with that courage.

‘The takeaway is nothing but pride. We played with no fear, we were superb in our defensive organisation, but we also showed our courage to play football.’
