QR codes have mysteriously appeared on greater than 1,000 German graves and picket crosses.
The 5×3.5cm stickers were first spotted some days ago at three cemeteries in Munich, prompting a police investigation.
When scanned, the name of the person buried on the grave and its location comes up, but nothing else.
‘We haven’t found any pattern behind this yet,’ said police spokesperson Christian Drexler.
‘The stickers were put each on decades-old gravestones and really recent graves that to date only have a picket cross.
He added: ‘Individuals who have witnessed anybody putting the stickers on the graves are asked to succeed in out to the respective cemetery’s administration.
The stickers have been seen at Waldfriedhof, Sendlinger Friedhof and Friedhof Solln cemeteries.
Police say the stickers have caused damage to a few of the graves when removed, including discolouration, so the culprits could possibly be chargeable for property damage.
