Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has fired a warning to Liverpool ahead of the Carabao Cup final after Monday’s 1-0 victory at West Ham.

The Brazilian midfielder scored the one goal of the match on the London Stadium to assist Newcastle climb as much as sixth within the Premier League table.

Eddie Howe’s side now turn their attentions to their clash with Liverpool at Wembley, with the Magpies dreaming of landing a serious trophy on Sunday.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup showdown, Guimaraes has warned Arne Slot’s men that Newcastle are treating the sport as if it were a World Cup final.

‘In fact, I feel we are able to beat Liverpool,’ Guimaraes told Sky Sports after the win over West Ham. ‘It a final, anything can occur.

‘The fans are 50/50, our fans could make a giant difference for us. For us, it’s just like the World Cup final because we need to make history for this club.

‘It’s an extended time for the fans with out a trophy. For us, it’s a giant game and we consider we are able to go there and get the trophy.

‘It’s a large win for us [against West Ham], we wish to fight for the Champions League again.

‘It was a giant win for us with big character to maintain the clean sheet. It’s win to get the arrogance back before the ultimate.’

The last major trophy Newcastle clinched was the FA Cup all the way in which back in 1955, once they defeated Manchester City 3-1.

‘The Carabao Cup final has been somewhat little bit of a distraction to be honest,’ Guimaraes added when asked if the upcoming clash was the explanation behind their recent inconsistent form within the Premier League.

‘A couple of of us have been fascinated with the ultimate. We all know we are going to play top-of-the-line teams on the planet. But I trust in us and am hopeful we are able to go to Wembley and get the title.

‘The people doubt us but we have now no doubts, we have now lots of deal with ourselves and belief within the players we have now within the squad.

‘In fact we’re missing players and that’s not good for us but today we showed we have now a robust squad.’

Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Howe has revealed he has a giant decision to make in goal for the Carabao Cup final, with the previous AFC Bournemouth manager currently undecided over picking Nick Pope or Martin Dubravka.

‘Difficult call, but it surely isn’t the just one,’ Howe said. ‘The goalkeeper situation has not been clear as each goalkeepers have been high-class.

‘I used to be pleased with Nick [Pope] today. Everyone must be ready. We’d like the entire squad focused on Sunday.

‘You search for the most effective man for the job. You are taking form, training and all the things into consideration. Tough calls to make.’
