Fan reception to the fundamental event of AEW Revolution on Sunday wasn’t exactly positive following Jon Moxley retaining the AEW World Championship against Cope, with Christian Cage cashing in his contract to make the match a triple threat. Many fans desired to see the top of the Death Riders storyline, but thanks partially to Cage, in addition to Wheeler Yuta, Moxley was capable of leave with the title within the briefcase before being confronted and brought out by Number One Contender Swerve Strickland. Bryan Alvarez said on “Wrestling Observer Radio” on Tuesday that he heard the fundamental event ending could have gone down very in a different way, with much more people involved.
“I do not know all of the small print, but there was apparently some idea for the fundamental event that involved far more people than ending up being on the market, including some returns,” Alvarez said. “On the last minute it just got axed. I do not know who it was or what they were going to do but there was a second plan that did not happen.”
He was adamant that Shane McMahon wasn’t meant to debut. Whoever was meant to return had already been in AEW prior to now, based on Alvarez. He said he also had read the web rumor that Cope refused to place over Cage, but said he has heard nothing resembling that. Irrespective of what modified, Alvarez said the result was at all times planned.
“I’d say I’m 99% sure regardless of what was planned before or after Moxley was at all times retaining and he was at all times occurring to face Swerve at the following pay-per-view,” he said.
