Kristin Davis Reveals the ‘Sex and the City’ Story Line She Hated

Kristin Davis didn’t love every drama the Sex and The City writers threw at her character Charlotte York.

The actress, 60, admitted on the Thursday, March 13 episode of her podcast “Are You a Charlotte?” that there was one plot she didn’t wish to film.

Davis recalled that there was a story line in season 6 of the HBO series that involved Charlotte and her second husband Harry, played by Evan Handler, suffering a bout of food poisoning. The characters were presupposed to be having fun with a elaborate, romantic night eating an array of French cheeses before things took a turn for the more severe and the characters ended up on the toilet floor after getting sick.

“I just hated that storyline a lot,” Davis confessed on the podcast, admitting she tried to persuade the powers that be to chop the scene completely. “I went to Elisa Zuritsky and Julia Rottenberg [the writers of the episode] and said, ‘Please, do we’ve got to do that? Why?’”

Nonetheless, Davis had no luck convincing them to chop the scene since the writers felt it was an amusing addition to the show.

“They were like, ‘It’s so funny,’” Davis recalled. “I believe it was based on a story where someone went to France and had an identical experience with their decadent cheeses, which we’re not used to here.”

The actress added, “I didn’t like that. I didn’t wish to lay on the ground of the toilet with Evan in stained T-shirts. Ick.”

Since her turn as Charlotte in the unique HBO series, which ran from 1998 to 2004, Davis reprised her role for the 2021 reboot, And Just Like That.

Last week, she shared more behind-the-scenes secrets on her podcast in regards to the SATC/AJLT universe —  including one which involved the actor who played her first husband, Trey MacDougal.

Within the March 7 episode of her podcast, Davis revealed Kyle MacLachlan turned down the chance to return as his character Trey.

“[Executive producer] Michael Patrick [King] has this thing where he doesn’t like us to discuss ideas for stories that didn’t occur,” Davis explained. “But I’m just gonna inform you guys that there was an concept that Trey/Kyle would come on And Just Like That, after which it didn’t occur. And so Kyle and I needed to discuss it, because I used to be kinda mad at him. I said, ‘Why didn’t you come on? We wanted you to come back on.’”

Davis went on to share MacLachlan’s reasoning behind not coming back, explaining, “He said, ‘I just wanted it to be amazing,’ meaning that it had a form of virtually a tragic note. I believe I’m not saying an excessive amount of. I hope Michael’s not gonna be mad at me. There was a little bit of a tragic note, but it surely had this incredible lead as much as me seeing Trey again.”

Days after Davis’ comments, MacLachlan told People that he hadn’t completely ruled out reprising his role as Trey but he’d only say yes if the storyline was adequate.

“I believe it might be really fun to return, yeah, I do,” MacLachlan, 66, told the outlet on Monday, March 10. “That they had reached out. I just felt that the concept that that they had — I wanted a little bit bit more to it. I wanted the connection that we needed to be a little bit deeper.”

He added, “Possibly they’ll come back with one other idea. I’d be game.”
