It was all celebrations for the Mumbai Indians camp after the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat the Gujarat Giants to win by 47 runs on the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to take them through to the ultimate of the 2025 Women’s Premier League season on Thursday.
As MI secured the win, even stars from the lads’s team, like Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, were within the audience to witness the side get to their second final.
It was a dominant display by MI, who set the tone with the bat in the primary innings. Each Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 77 runs each to assist the side get to a mammoth first-innings total. Harmanpreet Kaur provided the crowning glory, scoring a quickfire 36 off 12 balls to set a goal of 214 for the Giants.
The overall was an excessive amount of for the Giants, who let their lack of experience within the playoffs get to them because the batting unit struggled to maintain their chase in check. Matthews now starred with the ball, picking up three wickets and in addition taking the purple cap, because the Giants were bundled out for 166 runs in the method.
Coming to the lads’s team, the skipper may have some extent to prove in the approaching season of the IPL. After ending at the underside of the points table with just 4 wins within the 14 league-stage games, the star all-rounder will hope to take the franchise back where it belongs.
With a star-studded Indian core with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Pandya himself, it would come as no surprise if the franchise finds themselves within the hunt for a playoff spot.
With additions like Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar, amongst many others, the side is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the approaching season.
They are going to open their campaign with an away fixture against their arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings, on the Chepauk Stadium on March 23 (Sunday) later this month, and the Pandya-led side will look to make a press release right from game 1.
Meanwhile the ladies’s team will look to rest up and prepare themselves for what will likely be a replay of the primary season’s finale and MI will look to once more come out on top.
