Selena Gomez never saw Benny Blanco’s proposal coming — a lot in order that she almost missed it altogether.
The couple, who got engaged in December 2024, revealed during their Thursday, March 20 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Gomez was so “grumpy” that she almost skipped meeting Blanco on the day he planned to pop the query.
“We needed to do quite a lot of promo for the album,” Gomez, 32, explained. “So I woke up, and I used to be very confused on what was happening, on where we were going, since it seemed type of far. So, I’m type of a bit of grumpy. I’m, like, drained… I said, ‘After this shoot, I’m going to go hang around with my friends.’ And he starts, I suppose, going, ‘Okay, sure. We’ll see once you get here.’ “
Blanco, 37, recalled his tackle Gomez’s unexpectedly ill-timed mood, as he tried to work out what to do next.
“She almost didn’t even come. She was like, ‘I actually don’t feel that well. I feel I’m just going to remain home today. Can’t we just make up the shoot one other day?’” he recalled. “And I used to be like, ‘Uhh…’ I’m attempting to work out a technique to do…”
The producer identified that there’s typically quite a lot of lying to a loved one involved before getting down on one knee — something he found difficult on the time.
“Initially, getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing on the earth,” Blanco said. “It’s like, right before you’re going to inform someone you’re going to be married to them eternally. They’re like, ‘Show me how good you’ll be able to deceive me.’ It’s the toughest… She was just upset with me since the day before, I used to be making bad lies.”

The couple publicly shared the news of their engagement on the tail end of 2024 after greater than a 12 months of dating.
“Ceaselessly begins now,” Gomez captioned an Instagram post on December 11, which contained a picture that showed off her engagement ring.
For his part, Blanco celebrated the connection milestone by writing within the comments section, “Hey wait… that’s my wife.”

Since then, the couple has not been shy about publicly sharing details about their love for each other.
The pair spoke to Interview magazine published on Valentine’s Day last month and gushed over each other.
“You realize once you think you met the suitable person, you’re like, ‘Oh my God.’ But it surely feels so different,” Blanco told the outlet. “The second we began hanging out, I used to be like, ‘That is my wife.’ I used to be telling my mom, ‘That is the girl I’m going to marry.”
Gomez was equally enamored, adding that she was the one who caught feelings first.
“It was really easy. We got within the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me,” she said.
