Major update in case of Émile Soleil, 2, who was found dead within the French Alps | News World

Emile Soleil and his grandfather Philippe Vedovini, 59

The grandparents of two-year-old boy Émile Soleil found dead within the French Alps have been released for gratis after their arrest this week.

Philippe and Anne Vedovini, each 59, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder and concealing a body during an early morning raid of their home near Marseilles on Tuesday.

Two of their 10 children were also arrested. Émile’s parents weren’t amongst them.

Émile had been staying together with his grandparents at their holiday home within the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, south of Grenboble, when he went missing in July 2023.

He was found dead with a fractured skull, which bore a bite mark, roughly a mile away nine months later in March last 12 months.

After 72 hours of questioning, police released the grandparents for gratis around 5am on Thursday.

Mr Vedovini’s lawyer, Isabelle Colombani, said: ‘It’s a relief for them, and for his or her lawyers too. I even have never been too fearful. I believed we could explaine all the pieces. There have been possibly some grey areas to clear up, but that’s it.’

Julien Pinelli, Ms Vedovini’s defence barrister, described the discharge as ‘naturally an enormous relief’, saying: ‘She is walking away free.’
