In a chat with ScreenRant, Semanoff revealed that Melissa’s decision to kill Van wasn’t about strategy—it was about nostalgia. But not the comfy, “remember when?” kind. More just like the “remember once we pulled murder cards within the woods and survival was a day by day gamble?” kind. In response to him, “I feel ultimately, a very powerful thing was that she didn’t should be discovered. She was living a very secretive life… I feel she was sick of it.”
Melissa, very like Shauna, is over her dull post-survival existence. Semanoff purposely drew parallels between the 2, even giving Melissa a mom-ish minivan to reflect Shauna’s mundane life. The director explained, “I feel considered one of the things I desired to do was really parallel Shauna and Melissa… two women living similar lives and similarly sick of it.”
Principally, Melissa didn’t just stab Van, she stabbed her way back into the chaos. She desired to be chased again, hunted again, feared again. As Semanoff put it, “That is the sport. That is what you do.”
