Ruben Amorim singled out Manchester United teenager Harry Amass for praise following the side’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.

United academy product Amass became the fourth youngest player within the in history to begin a Premier League game for the club – and Amorim was pleased with the teenager’s showing.

‘I feel he did quite well,’ Amorim said.

‘He caught a player that is admittedly fast, he made his debut in possibly certainly one of the toughest stadiums with a team that is admittedly in a very good moment.

‘I feel he did very well so he must proceed and we want to assist all these young kids to perform in the next level.’

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, a defiant Amorim insisted he ‘didn’t care’ about any criticism coming his way within the wake of United’s latest setback.

‘I understand but I don’t care. Nothing is worse than losing games,’ Amorim said.

‘People can say whatever they need to say. I don’t need to defend myself or anything like that.

‘When you take a look at our position within the table, it says all of it. Thursday is admittedly essential. Losing games is the toughest part by far of this job. Let’s concentrate on Thursday [against Lyon].
