Despite his success, Gaurav faced significant backlash for allegedly copying the Honey Dripping Dessert from Swiss chef Dives Josh.
Gaurav Khan BREAKS SILENCE On Celebrity MasterChef Dessert Copying Controversy
Recently, he addressed the controversy during a podcast with Siddharth Kannan, sharing his perspective on the accusations. When asked about people trolling him for copying a dish, Gaurav said, “Copy? Principal research karta tha aur mujhe jo cheez kahin acchi lagi ya kuch… jaise aap dekhein koi movie hai, for instance maine ek interview suna tha jahaan pe log bolte the ki Shah Rukh Khan jo hain wo Dilip Kumar ki copy karte hain, bahot pehle suna tha Bachchan sahab [Amitabh Bachchan] bhi karte hain emulate. Phir maine suna tha ki Raj Kapoor sahab Charlie Chaplin ko emulate karte the ya like karte honge. Toh kya ye karne se Raj Kapoor, Dilip sahab, Bachchan sahab aur Shah Rukh Khan ki value kam hai kya? So again, logon ka kaam hai kehna. One produces it and make it our own”
In his remarks, Gaurav expressed his appreciation for Chef Vikas Khanna, who defended him in the course of the online backlash. Vikas was impressed with Gaurav’s dessert and provided a powerful rebuttal to the trolls. Gaurav added, “I’m an insignificant, normal human being who has been making food for 3 months. He (Vikas Khanna) put an end to this segment in such way. So jab Dronacharya ne khud jawaab dedia hai, toh Arjun kyu jawaab de? (So when Dronacharya himself has given the reply, why should Arjun answer?) I like my work to talk and my work says that I actually have won MasterChef. I actually worked hard on it. I’m very pleased with winning this show. It’s my first reality show. That is something which I never expected.”
About The Controversy
The unique allegations arose as Gaurav’s dish drew comparisons to Josh’s creation, resulting in a social media firestorm. In response, the Swiss chef acknowledged Gaurav’s efforts, posting a promo of the dessert on his Instagram stories with the comment, “well done, so creative…(tongue out emoji).” In support of Gaurav, Vikas shared a clip from the show on his Instagram, noting the remarkable culinary achievements displayed in the course of the season. He exclaimed, “Very rarely do you witness Culinary Greatness like this one. I actually have to confess that this 12 months’s MasterChef set a next-level benchmark for us. I wish every celebrity contestant the easiest.” Show host Farah Khan also chimed in,“Truly (fire emoji).”
