Alan Shearer has urged Manchester United to finish a ‘bargain’ transfer after wrapping up a deal for Matheus Cunha.

United are expected to bring Brazilian playmaker Cunha to Old Trafford this summer.

Cunha, who has a release clause of £62.5m, signed a brand new cope with Wolves in January but did so knowing he can be put up on the market in the summertime.

The 25-year-old’s form at Molineux has attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea but Manchester United are leading the transfer race after opening talks earlier this month.

Shearer insists Cunha has the ‘talent’ to thrive at Old Trafford but says his signing ‘won’t make a difference’ unless further additions arrive on the Manchester giants this summer.

The ex-England striker believes Ruben Amorim needs ‘six or seven’ latest signings and says United should look to secure a deal for Liam Delap.

Delap has enjoyed a formidable season despite Ipswich Town’s struggles within the Premier League and could be signed for £30m this summer.

The reasonable buy-out clause has alerted Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea to the potential of a summer deal.

‘Matheus Cunha has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but wouldn’t make a difference for Man United – they’re going to wish one other six or seven players on top of that,’ Shearer told Betfair.

‘He’s just one among the players, if it will occur, but yeah I get it and I understand it.

‘The explanation why he signed a contract extension at Wolves was in order that they might do away with the discharge clause to get some decent money for him. United are going to wish greater than him, but he’ll be a welcome addition, absolutely.

‘I don’t know what they’re going to must pay for him. I think it’s quite a hefty amount. Has he got talent? Absolutely. Is he a little bit of a maverick? Yeah, but you get that with most good players – they’ve an edge to them and a side which some people may not like.

‘You could have to get around that and manage it in alternative ways and also you have a look at the absolute best ever players at United, Eric Cantona, or George Best – I’m not comparing but most top players have something about them.

‘I used to be the identical – I got into one or two fights in my profession, but that’s what happens. You’ve got to have an edge to you.

‘United are missing a lot in every position – we could talk all day about what’s gone incorrect this season in those positions for them.

‘They’ve also been linked with Liam Delap. But one or the opposite? They should sign each.

‘They need a top-class centre-forward like Delap, but they need someone like Cunha as well. They need players defensively as well – throughout the pitch they need reinforcements.

‘Whether or not they can exit and spend that much, I don’t know. I think which will depend whether or not they get into the Champions League or not.

‘I’ve read that there’s a few £30m release clause for Liam Delap, which implies that somebody goes to get an actual bargain in that.  It isn’t plenty of money for a centre-forward with big potential, like he has.

‘He’ll have tons of options, Delap will. Once you have a look at all of the clubs who need a centre-forward within the Premier League – Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Spurs – there’ll be huge clubs all taking a look at Delap.

‘There’s little doubt, whether it is that sum of money, then he can have big options.’

Manchester United are only 14th within the Premier League with five games remaining.

Amorim’s side can, nevertheless, salvage a dismal campaign by winning the Europa League ahead of a semi-final tie with Athletic Bilbao.
