Where Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum’s Marriage Stands After Affair, Baby

This past summer, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl sent shock waves through the music industry when he announced on Instagram that he’d fathered a baby outside of his 21-year marriage to Jordyn Blum.

Fans were stunned to learn that the 56-year-old star — who’d been widely considered considered one of the nicest guys in rock & roll — had cheated on his wife and the mother of his three daughters. Nobody was more surprised by the events preceding Grohl’s social media revelation than Blum herself. A source near the couple tells Us Weekly, “This was something Jordyn never could have imagined.”

Seven months later, the pair are still picking up the pieces. In response to the source, Grohl is “fully” supporting his latest daughter and her mom, 38-year-old Florida native Jennifer Young. And he’s doing all the things he can to regain the trust of Blum, 48, and their children, Violet, 19, Harper, 16, and Ophelia, 10. “Dave is regretful and ashamed of his actions,” says the source. “He knows he let his family down. He’s really working on his marriage to Jordyn and needs this to be a brand new chapter for them.”

In his September 2024 Instagram post, Grohl vowed to be “a loving and supportive parent” to his latest daughter. The source says he’s making good on his promise. “Dave is paying for Jennifer and the infant’s living and medical expenses,” explains the source, “and helps with anything [they need].”

An insider says Grohl and Young met in October 2021 while Young was working on a TV show in Washington, D.C., and Grohl was on the town promoting his book, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music. In response to the insider, Young’s boss — a friend of Grohl’s — invited him to a celebration with the production crew, and “that’s when Dave met Jennifer for the primary time.” The source says Grohl and Young had been seeing one another on and off for years. “They’d chemistry,” the source reveals, adding that the affair had “been happening for some time.” The pair even attended an August 2023 Metallica concert in L.A., as seen in a video circulated on TikTok.

The source notes their communication is currently limited to coparenting logistics, they usually “aren’t continuing their relationship now.” Young was photographed walking along with her daughter in NYC in February and in L.A. in March. The Recent York Post — who reported the infant was born on August 1 — noted she has music-related tattoos, including Paul McCartney lyrics and the Metallica logo.

Shattered Trust

Blum continues to be “processing” the betrayal, the source previously told Us. “The toughest part for Jordyn has been seeing Dave have one other family. It’s something that may take time.” The source tells Us now that despite Blum still being “heartbroken over the situation,” she ultimately wants Grohl “to be a great father.” (In March, the source told Us, “Dave helps Jennifer with their latest baby and has been supportive. He desires to be a great dad.”)

After tying the knot at their L.A. home in 2003, Grohl and Blum, a former model and MTV producer, kept their relationship largely out of the general public eye. In 2007, Grohl called her his “anchor” and he’s revealed that she inspired multiple Foo Fighters songs, including “Statue” and “Burn Away.” While Grohl had admitted that infidelity led to the demise of his first marriage to photographer Jennifer Youngblood, he and Blum appeared to be defying the “cheating rockstar” odds. Two months before the scandal broke, they were seen smiling and laughing together at Wimbledon.

The source says Grohl and Blum had issues over time. (Shortly after Grohl’s announcement, reports surfaced claiming his flirty behavior had been causing tension for a while.) But nothing had prepared Blum for Grohl getting one other woman pregnant. “Dave and Jordyn have had many ups and downs over time, but this was an enormous bomb of their marriage,” the source told Us in March. “It was an enormous shock.” Most of the people was also stunned by the news, with “There goes our hero” memes going viral and fans calling Grohl out online for not being the dedicated family man he gave the impression to be. The passive tone of his Instagram announcement — which read partially: “I actually have recently develop into the daddy of a brand new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage” — also drew criticism.

Taking It Slow

Blum initially wanted a divorce. (Grohl reportedly retained a divorce lawyer before news of his baby broke but was not working with one by November.) “Jordyn planned to divorce Dave right after she discovered,” said the source in March. “She needed space to know what was happening.”

Ultimately, they need to keep their family intact. They’ve been spotted out twice together in recent months; once of their automobile near their Encino, California, home in mid-February and again on March 16, grabbing lunch with a friend in Glendale. “Jordyn desires to be strong for his or her kids,” says the source, “and neither of them wants the family broken.”

They’ve been working through things together in counseling. “There’s a number of therapy involved for the entire family,” says the source, adding, “Dave’s kids are deeply upset and haven’t fully processed his cheating and the brand new baby.” (They appear to have made some progress: In January, Violet, a budding musician, sang the Nirvana song “All Apologies” with Grohl and the remaining members of the band on the FireAid profit concert.) “Dave has been doing anything he can to win back their kids’ trust,” the source said in March.

It hasn’t been easy, but Blum is standing by his side. “She still has resentment and trust issues but is attempting to move past all of it,” says the source. “She’s taking it day-to-day. It’ll be a piece in progress for some time.”
