Ex-Pakistan Star Mohammad Amir Hints At Selecting IPL Participation Over PSL: “Will Be Banned…”

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has hinted he’s near getting clearence to play within the Indian Premier League (IPL) next 12 months. Amir, who retired from international cricket last 12 months, made his last appearance for Pakistan against Ireland through the T20 World Cup last 12 months. Pakistan players haven’t played within the IPL because the inaugural season on account of the political tensions between the 2 countries. Nonetheless, there was an exception in the shape of Azhar Mahmood, who played three seasons in IPL after becoming a British citizen in 2011.

Amir has now revealed he would like to play within the IPL, given he gets a chance.

“Truthfully, if I get the chance, I’ll definitely play within the IPL. I’m saying this openly. But when I do not get a likelihood, then I’ll play within the PSL. By next 12 months, I can have the chance to play within the IPL, and if given the prospect, then why not? I’ll play within the IPL,” Amir told Samaa TV

On being asked to select between the PSL and IPL, if there may be possible clash within the scheduling, Amir gave a no-nonsense.

“I do not think IPL and PSL will clash next 12 months. Because this 12 months, the ICC Champions Trophy was every thing. If I get picked in PSL first, then I can not pull out, as I shall be banned from the tournament. If I get picked in IPL first, then I can not pull out from that league as well. Now, it depends upon which league I get picked in first. If the IPL auction happens first and I get picked, then I can not pull off and won’t play within the PSL. And if the PSL draft takes place first, and I get picked, then I can not pull out from the tournament,” he added.

Unlike Mahmood, Amir’s case is a bit complicated. Even when he registers for the IPL, it is probably going that he won’t be picked, especially after the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack in Kashmir.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla reinforced that India won’t play any bilateral cricket against Pakistan within the aftermath of the terrorist attack.
