Teddy Sheringham has urged Manchester United to snub a move for Liverpool star Caoimhin Kelleher in the summertime transfer window.

There are rumours that United are monitoring several goalkeepers resulting from the poor performances of their current No.1 Andre Onana this season.

United signed Onana from Inter Milan in 2023, paying the Italian club £47.2m for his services.

Kelleher, meanwhile, is keen to secure more regular playing time, having operated as a No.2 to Liverpool’s first selection goalkeeper Alisson so far.

Should Kelleher complete a move to United, it will sent shockwaves across football, on condition that the Red Devils are Liverpool are arch rivals.

‘Caoimhin Kelleher to Man Utd wouldn’t be good for the player or club’

Former United striker Sheringham has warned his old club over a possible deal for the 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

‘Caoimhin Kelleher to Manchester United… I don’t think that will be good for the player or the club,’ Sheringham told CasinoHawks.

‘It will bring a lot pressure on his shoulders. The one way it may be successful is that if Ruben Amorim got to know him personally and was in a position to have an in depth relationship with him, but without that it will be putting an excessive amount of pressure on his shoulders.’

Kelleher has been strongly linked to Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window, while Tottenham and Bournemouth are also interested.

Premier League veteran Richard Dunne, speaking last month, said that Kelleher could be an excellent fit for Chelsea.

‘If it does work out as people appear to think that he’s now going to be third-choice goalkeeper next season at Liverpool behind Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili there’s little question that he’ll then move on,’ Dunne said.

‘He’s adequate now to be a No. 1, he’s proven that this season. On the age he’s at, he’s probably feeling able to play regularly and be the starting keeper for a team that’s difficult for trophies.’

‘Man Utd must be taking a look at Marco Asensio’

Meanwhile, Sheringham believes United should consider a move for Marco Asensio at the top of the season.

The Spain international, who can play as a winger or attacking midfielder, is currently on loan at Aston Villa from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

‘Should Manchester United be excited about Marco Asensio? I believe he’s been an amazing signing for Aston Villa to boost their team at a tricky time of the season,’ Sheringham said.

‘It’s hard to get top players in January but he’s definitely are available in at Aston Villa and he’s made an actual difference.

‘I’m sure there’s a variety of other folks that are taking a look at him now if he hasn’t already been signed by Villa, if not, United must be considered one of them.’
