Ring of fireside

Conor Benn had his request for an 18ft ring tonight for his fight with Chris Eubank Jr approved.

Nevertheless, it’s causing all kinds of problems within the opening two bouts of the night, with the canvas slippery.

Gareth A Davies told talkSPORT: “This canvas is printed, not painted, so because of this, there may be less friction on it.

“And the one way that boxers can get around this, and if anyone’s listening within the dressing room, is to sandpaper the underside of your boots, because normally painted canvases are the case, but on this instance, it was printed, so there’s less friction.

“There are two canvases within the event that there is an excessive amount of blood or an excessive amount of water, or it rains, there may be a canvas underneath, but it would not make any difference in anyway.”

A fuming Adam Catterall interjected: “They need to alter it. They need to alter it, they usually have to rip that off, they usually have to do away with all of the sponsorship, because that is going to affect the fight.”

Spencer Oliver added: “Yeah, and I say the large problem boys, I do not think any of them, fighters in them dressing rooms are going to have any sandpaper. What do you reckon?”
