The initial appeal for a fight between Eubank Jr and Conor Benn was largely predicated on the success of every man’s father, where the prospect almost acted like a quasi-continuation of their fathers’ previous rivalry. Eubank Jr is, after all, the son of Chris Eubank, former WBO champion at each middleweight and supper middle. On the opposite side, Benn is the son of Nigel Benn, who also held the WBO belt at middleweight, and he was also the WBC super middleweight champion. These former two-division champions fought twice, first in 1990, when Eubank won the WBO middleweight title against Benn. Then they fought again in 1993, this time in a unification bout at super middleweight, where Eubank and Benn each retained their respective WBO and WBC titles, after the rematch led to a draw.

The 2 sons were originally scheduled to fight in October 2022, but just days before the fight was speculated to occur, Benn tested positive for a banned substance and the fight was subsequently technically postponed. Now that it finally happened, it wound up greatly exceeding expectations, ultimately evolving right into a bona fide Fight of the 12 months candidate.

This edition of Rummy’s Corner will provide a transient recap and review of the fight between Eubank Jr and Benn, together with some opinions about each man’s performance. Please watch and revel in the video for one man’s opinion. That is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
