Kaitlyn Bristowe is clearing up speculation about her latest breakup song, “Lonely in Love.”
The previous Bachelorette, 40, dropped her latest musical effort on June 19 to mark her fortieth birthday, prompting fans to ponder whether the lyrics are about her ex, Jason Tartick.
On Sunday, June 29, Bristowe posted a video of herself listening to the heartbreak ballad via her Instagram Story and appeared to dispel the fan speculation.
“I’ve been seeing loads of people guess who this song is about. Nevertheless it’s not about that person. I wasn’t in love at the top,” she wrote over the video, alluding to the song’s lyrics about navigating the top of a relationship and still having feelings for the opposite person.
Bristowe and fellow Bachelor Nation alum Tartick, 36, were engaged after they announced in August 2023 that they were going their separate ways after 4 years together.
“After sharing the news with family and shut friends first, and taking the time to properly process it ourselves, we’re saddened with heavy hearts to share that we have now decided to finish our engagement,” the previous couple shared in a joint statement. “We’re thankful for all of you who gave us the time and space to process this life-altering decision as there are lots of emotions and changes to navigate.”
The statement concluded, “Continuing our friendship is incredibly necessary to each of us. We feel grateful to be ending our engagement with love and respect for one another. It’s heartbreaking and sad to say goodbye, but our care and admiration for each other won’t ever die.”
Bristowe introduced “Lonely in Love” to her followers last month, describing her journey of writing a brand new song five years after she released her last single.
“Have you ever ever been lonely in love? It’s a extremely sad, hard, heartbreaking feeling. I like writing, and singing about things I can reflect on,” Bristowe captioned an Instagram post showcasing the only’s cover art. “Things that broke me, and built me. Recently, I had @melrobbins on my podcast. She had me promise her that I might create more music. I told her I had a fear of looking silly. I tell myself, ‘You’re not a singer.’ And if someone desires to make me feel silly, ‘allow them to’. But I’m a singer. I’m also a author. And I’m also 40 today.”
“Continuing to at all times push myself to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I hope this song makes you are feeling something. Either empowered to depart, proud you bought out, or simply simply going through something straight away that might also pass. I like you all a lot. Thanks for supporting my dreams, big or small,” she concluded.
On the track, Bristowe laments a relationship that has reached its end. “Perfect / In case you just checked out the images, it was perfect,” she sings. “In case you took the time / to look behind the scenes / you’d see the explanation I felt stranded.”
Bristowe later croons, “You took my heart and all the pieces as a right / And I just ran through the motions / Burned out and broken / You’d think you’d notice me / Lying awake in a bed we just sleep in / Dreaming of reasons to not give it up.”
