Australia skipper Alyssa Healy has said that Mohammed Siraj is just like the barometer of the Indian bowling attack and he brings energy and fervour which drives India to perform in high-pressure Tests, after Siraj put up an excellent performance with the red cherry against England within the second Test at Edgbaston.

Reflecting on their performance during a podcast, Healy praised Siraj‘s relentless energy and aggression, calling him the driving force of India’s bowling attack. She commended Akash Deep for stepping up with precision and impact as well, despite being India’s fourth pacer.

Siraj, leading the pace attack in ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, delivered an excellent six-fer in England’s first innings. His aggressive approach and capability to strike at crucial moments were critical in ensuring that India bagged a giant 180-run first-innings lead.

Within the second innings, Akash was throughout England together with his sensible spell with a six-wicket haul to assist India register an excellent victory.

“Akash Deep has got a extremely good record in Tests but just doesn’t get much of a go because after they are full strength, he’s kind of the subsequent one to go. But you (Haddin) are right,” Healy said while speaking on the Willow Talk podcast.

“I feel Siraj really stood up. He’s kinda just like the barometer of that bowling attack at times anyway. He brings energy. He brings passion. He runs in, he charges in and he tries to make things occur,” Healy added.

An unheralded Akash, hailing from Bihar’s Sasaram, owned the massive stage like never before within the absence of Bumrah as Shubman Gill’s young India’s broke a 58-year-old ‘Edgbaston Jinx’ thrashing England by 336 runs to level the five-Test series 1-1.

Akash took a match-haul of 10 wickets, including his maiden five-for, 6/99 in England’s second innings with the hosts getting all-out for 271 in pursuit of an improbable 608.

If Gill, together with his magnificent batting (269 and 161) set it up, Akash deserves equal credit for his lion-hearted effort on a pitch which was a bowler’s graveyard.

If Siraj (7 wickets and catches) bowled just like the leader of the attack in the primary innings, Akash built on his first innings gains to strike twice with recent ball on day 5.
