Newcastle have held talks with free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who can also be on the radar of Manchester United this summer.

The 28-year-old left Everton at the top of the season when his contract expired and is now on the lookout for a brand new club.

The 11-cap England international was once linked with big-money moves to top clubs, but recent seasons have been affected by injuries and his stock has fallen.

Nonetheless, now he is offered on a free transfer, big clubs are serious about taking a chance on the forward.

Manchester United have been linked with snapping him up as they appear to revamp their options in attack and have missed out on targets including Viktor Gyokeres.

TalkSPORT report that Newcastle have also held ‘fresh talks’ with Calvert-Lewin, potentially bringing him in as back-up to star striker Alexander Isak.

The results of those talks just isn’t clear, but there may be interest from the Magpies, with manager Eddie Howe said to be a long-term admirer of the Sheffield-born striker.

Newly-promoted Leeds United have also been credited with an interest within the Yorkshireman, but his wage demands are reportedly out of their reach.

Newcastle are in need of a brand new striker after Callum Wilson confirmed he has left the club at the top of his contract on Monday.

The 33-year-old has been at St James’ Park since 2020, scoring 49 goals in 130 appearances for the Magpies.

He too has suffered with injuries, though, and for the reason that arrival of Isak has fallen down the pecking order.

Last season saw him rating only one goal in 22 appearances in all competitions, with the overwhelming majority of those outings coming off the bench.

Wilson posted an emotional message on social media, which read: ‘To all you Magpies..

‘It’s time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years within the Toon.
