A blockbuster performance with the bat within the Birmingham Test has propelled India captain Shubman Gill to a career-best position in the newest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. Then again, England batter Harry Brook has overtaken Joe Root to turn into the brand new top-ranked batter within the longer format.

Gill, with remarkable innings of 269 and 161, became only the second player in history to record scores above 150 in each innings of a Test match, amassing the second-highest aggregate ever by a batter in Tests with 430 runs. This performance has propelled him 15 places to a career-best sixth position.

Previously, Gill’s highest rating was 14th, which he attained in September last yr, and he began the continuing series ranked twenty third. Then again, Brook has ascended to the highest of the Test batters’ rankings after scoring an impressive 158 in the primary innings of the second Test in Birmingham.

Brook had briefly held the primary Test batter position for one week in December last yr. His return to the highest spot has resulted in Root being pushed to the second position and losing 18 rating points.

Other batters making notable gains after the Edgbaston Test include India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has moved up six places to thirty ninth after helpful innings of 89 and 69 not out, and England wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith, who has entered the highest 10 for the primary time after his solid innings of 184 not out and 88, lifting him 16 places to tenth position.

India’s new-ball bowlers Mohammad Siraj and Akash Deep, who each took a five-wicket haul, have also made significant progress within the Test bowling rankings. Siraj’s seven wickets within the match have elevated him six places to twenty second, while Akash has jumped 39 places to a career-best forty fifth position after securing his maiden ten-wicket match haul.

South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder, who made headlines along with his unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, has surged 34 spots to a career-best twenty second position within the batting rankings. He also picked up three wickets, moving him up 4 places to forty eighth amongst bowlers.

Within the all-rounders’ rankings, Mulder has made a big leap to a career-best third position, now only behind Jadeja and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Other notable gains from performances in Bulawayo include South Africa batters David Bedingham, who’s up 4 places to forty third, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who has jumped eight places to sixtieth position. Amongst bowlers, Corbin Bosch has moved up six places to 51st.

Following the second Test between the West Indies and Australia in Grenada, Cameron Green (up 4 places to forty fifth) and Beau Webster (up two places to fiftieth) have made gains from an Australian perspective. West Indies batters Roston Chase (up 4 places to 81st) and Brandon King (up 60 places to 83rd) have also advanced within the rankings. The West Indies fast-bowling duo Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph have each moved up six places to twenty ninth and thirty first positions, respectively.

Within the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, after Sri Lanka’s 2-1 series win over Bangladesh, Charith Asalanka’s 106 in the primary match helped him climb two slots to sixth place, while Kusal Mendis’s 124 in the ultimate match lifted him into the highest 10 for the primary time.

Their teammate Janith Liyanage (up seven places to forty fourth) and Bangladesh’s Towhid Hridoy (up seven places to 51st) have also moved up the batting rankings. Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has re-entered the highest 10 of the ODI bowling rankings, advancing 11 places to eighth position.
