Paul Simon’s daughter will not be glad with Richard Gere.
Lulu Simon, 30, took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, July 8, to slam the actor, 75, for selling her childhood home to real-estate developers.
“JUST IN CASE ANYONE WAS WONDERING IF I STILL HATE RICHARD GERE – I DO!” Lulu, a musician like her father, posted in her Stories, per People.
She claimed, in all caps: “HE BOUGHT MY CHILDHOOD HOME. PROMISED HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE LAND AS CONDITION OF HIS PURCHASE. PROCEEDED TO NEVER ACTUALLY MOVE IN & JUST SOLD IT TO A DEVELOPER AS 9 SEPARATE PLOTS :).”
Lulu added a screenshot of a news article in regards to the historic Connecticut mansion’s upcoming demolition. In keeping with that article, “Preservationists are racing to salvage its Thirties charm before the 32-acre lot is was nine latest homes.”
Gere bought the property from Paul, 83, and his wife Edie Brickell for $10.8 million circa 2022. In October 2024, he sold it to Hudson Valley House Parts for $10.7 million.
In a subsequent Story, Lulu superimposed a photograph of Gere over assorted pet pictures, writing, “I HOPE MY DEAD PETS BURIED IN THAT BACK YARD HAUNT YOU UNTIL YOU DESCEND INTO A SLOW AND UNRELENTING MADNESS.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Gere’s rep for comment.
The demolition was first reported in May. Hudson Valley House Parts shared an Instagram post that month during which the corporate stated that “our team has been working to avoid wasting the pieces that we will from the landfill.”
Before selling the 1938 estate, Gere had desired to convert the property into a personal farm, the Recent Canaan Advertiser reported in September 2023.
“I actually have received phone calls from 4 or five neighbors (who were) very concerned … if this was going to be some form of big industrial operation, and it’s really not,” Gere’s lawyer, Richard Rucci, said during a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on the time. “The owners … they each have grown up on farms, they’re very focused on farms and teaching their kids about farms … so this is absolutely vital to them.”
Gere recently moved to Madrid together with his wife of seven years, Alejandra Silva, and their sons Alexander, 6, and James, 5.
“My wife is Spanish, and we’re going there for her family, her friends, her culture,” the Pretty Woman star explained on Today in November 2024. “The children are bilingual, so it’s really going to be great for them.”
