It’s understood that Arsenal will demand a £20m fee for Trossard and are open to letting him leave the club before the tip of the transfer window.

Trossard, who was signed in a £27m deal from Brighton in 2023, has 28 goals and 23 assists in 124 appearances for Arsenal.

Speaking last season, Arteta described Trossard as ‘a little bit of a moaner’ but insisted the Belgium international is ‘a very good character’ in his Arsenal squad.

‘Leo, naturally, is a little bit of a moaner but I like that because he’s very competitive. When you’ve training sessions, he’s all the time busy with the referee’s decision, because he desires to win. That’s what I like,’ Arteta said.

‘He all the time desires to be one of the best and when he’s not there, he’s not glad. But that’s what pushes him. That’s where he is available in the pitch, he could make an impact because he’s got that drive, that anger which says: ‘I’m gonna show you.’ I like that about him.

‘He’s a very good character. All of them wish to play. All the time wish to play. Leo has shown rather a lot more consistency within the last 12 months, he’s deserved that. He’s had a variety of competition in his position. That’s it. Raise the extent. If he plays at that level then he’ll play like anyone else.

‘He has the capability to do something special in the ultimate third.’
