After the Indian women’s team secured their first T20I series win in England with a game to spare, star batter Smriti Mandhana praised the team’s all-around performance within the series to this point and noted the evident hunger in everyone’s eyes, which was mirrored of their play.
India made history at Old Trafford on Wednesday night by winning the fourth T20I by six wickets. Through the match, Deepti Sharma became only the second Indian woman to realize 300 international wickets, following Jhulan Goswami.
“The way in which our bowlers performed in all 4 matches, even within the third T20, their comeback was remarkable. They restricted England within the last 4-5 overs, conceding only around 25 runs. The fielding was also very clear and precise. I attribute this success to those two points. The clarity and quality of the fielding have been exceptional,” Mandhana said in a video shared by BCCI on its social media.
“Everyone looks much fitter now. So, numerous credit goes to them. They were under significant pressure coming into the series, but their performance here has made me very joyful.
“Everyone was really enthusiastic and able to go. We were just waiting for the correct moment. Sometimes, you get a way that everyone seems to be in tune. There was a hunger in everyone’s eyes, and I imagine it truly showed in our performance,” she added.
India defeated England of their first-ever T20I contest in 2006 but had not won an away T20I series against them until the victory at Old Trafford.
“We discussed within the huddle that we were on the verge of creating history, as we had never beaten England in a T20I series on their home turf. I’m extremely pleased with everyone’s performance. It’s amazing what these girls have achieved,” Mandhana said.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar also reflected on the win and dedicated it to the nation for his or her continuous support. “What these girls have achieved is amazing. Winning at a historic ground like Old Trafford is a incredible feeling. We would love to dedicate this series win to your complete nation,” he said.
