England bowling coach Tim Southee, on Saturday, July 12, questioned India’s tactics within the Lord’s Test, asking why they were disenchanted with Zak Crawley receiving treatment on his hands in the ultimate over of the day when India skipper Shubman Gill was lying on the bottom and getting his back treated on Day 2.

It was a dramatic end to the third day of the third Test with opener Zak Crawley using the delaying tactic to make sure England just played one over before stumps, however the Indians, led by Gill, weren’t amused.

Speaking after close of play, Southee and India opener KL Rahul said that the heated exchange between the Indian fielders and the house side openers formed the essence of a hard-fought day in Tests.

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah clapped in sarcasm as Crawley faked pain in his hand after defending the ball from the center of the bat.

“It’s good. all the time exciting to see either side animated towards the top. Unsure what they were complaining about when Gill was lying down getting a massage in the midst of the day yesterday,” Southee said while speaking on the post-match press conference.

“It’s a part of the sport. Near the top of the day, it’s an exciting strategy to finish the day,” Southee added.

Asked about Crawley’s injury update, the Latest Zealand pacer gave a funny reply.

“Yeah, he (Crawley) can be assessed overnight. Hope he’ll be alright to hold on tomorrow,” Southee said.

Meanwhile, Rahul racked up his second century at the enduring Lord’s before India matched England’s first innings total of 387 on an attritional third day of the third Test to go away the match on even keel on a deteriorating track.

Besides Rahul’s high-quality effort (100 off 177), Ravindra Jadeja (72 off 131) and Rishabh Pant (74 off 112) propped up India’s first innings total.

It will be a challenge for India to bat last on a pitch where the odd ball is taking off after pitching besides offering some turn.
