Gunner Olszewski is back within the fold for the Giants. The veteran receiver/returner has a brand new deal in place with the team, as first reported by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
The move is now official. Olszewski hung out with the Giants in 2023 and was set to stay in place last 12 months. The 28-year-old wound up being injured just before Latest York’s regular season opener, though, and he was unable to see any playing time. Now, Olszewski will have the opportunity to spend the rest of coaching camp carving out a roster spot.
Today’s deal comes on the heels of fellow special teams mainstay Bryce Ford-Wheaton suffering an Achilles tear. His absence – stemming from the second season-ending injury of his three-year profession – created a gap for an addition to switch his third phase contributions. That may take the shape of a well-known face.
Olszewski is a veteran of 65 games across his time with the Patriots, Steelers and Giants. The previous UDFA has made only 15 catches in his profession and surpassed 100 offensive snaps just twice in a season. An uptick in workload in that capability shouldn’t be expected upon returning to the Giants. Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt are set to stay the team’s top WR options in 2025.
That may leave Olszewski to operate as a fill-in option on the receiver spot while also offering value within the return game. He earned a first-team All-Pro nod in 2020 for his work as a punt returner specifically, and he handled that role last time around with the Giants. It will come as no surprise if the identical were to be true in 2025.
